The Design

I had a number of concepts I wanted to include in the new house I was designing. First, I wanted to take full advantage of the lake and its view. Next, I wanted enough space that I could comfortably host Colin's family as well as other guests from time to time. Lastly, I wanted something ultra-modern/contemporary. After playing with a number of images I found and working with Shane (my builder) and Nico my architect at Dixon Design in St. Augustine, I have finally settled on the design I am very excited about.

Overview

The floor plan is one that is built around the idea of an "Open" concept. The house can be through of as 3 sectionsL  two, self-sufficient guest "suites (one over the garage and one on the right front of the  house) and a main house. The guest suites are pretty much separate from the main house which has a Master Suite, Office, Guest bedroom and large patio area with a pool out back.

The roof lines have been design to allow for solar panels to be installed on most of the larger portions of the roof as well as providing the best views of the lake. The house will have windows and glass walls everywhere to "bring the outside" inside in node to the Frank Lloyd Wright style.

The View Out Back

The key element of the main house will have a folding glass wall across the entire back of the house giving me a spectacular view of the lake across the top of the pool.

The pool is going to be a "free form" design with an integral hot tub connected to it with a waterfall.

The Kitchens

The kitchens (both inside and out) will be the kitchens I always dreamed of connected to a very large, open Great Room/Dining Room combined space. The inside kitchen will have a large stove with oven plus a double oven built into the wall. There will also be space for the refrigerator as well as a full size wine refrigerator. The large island will be the main causal eating area and will have a prep-sink as part of it

Outside there will be a full kitchen by the pool with a grill, griddle, refrigerator and sink.  I anticipate that I will be living most of the time outside so having a full kitchen makes total sense.

 The Guest Suites

The two guest suites are essentially full 2 bedroom apartments. They are designed to be self contained with their own bathroom, kitchen and living area.

Guest Suite #1 is located at the front right of the main house and connected via a hallway through the Laundry area. It will also have an outdoor shower off the bath.

Guest Suite #2 is located over the 3 car garage and will have a view of the lake over the top of the house. There will be a 3 season room that will have the view in addition to an outdoor balcony/porch for enjoying the outside.  It is essentially a 2 bedroom apartment too with a kitchen, sitting area and its own small laundry. This suite is connected to the house via an outdoor covered porch to a separate entrance and is designed to accommodate guests even if I am not around.
